The (Not So) Secret Weapon of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
The secret weapon of Black Ops 2 isn’t a new, futuristic attachment, an over-the-top score streak, or even an item new to the CoD franchise. It is, however, the EMP grenade. This grenade was introduced to the series in Modern Warfare 3, but had a somewhat limited used. EMP grenades could disable various point streaks, most equipment, or on human players (which temporarily removed their HUD). In Black Ops 2, every gamer is going to absolutely need at least one class equipped with an EMP grenade.
In addition to the uses that EMPs had in MW3, these grenades will come in handy against the drones of 2025 in Black Ops 2. An the drones aren’t only in the air, but on the ground, too. More imporantly one key change has been made to a particular streak that I’m not sure most gamers are even aware of. In the past, sentry guns were at the lower end of the spectrum of streaks and they weren’t always particularly useful. The biggest problem with them was that, at times, someone else would run around and melee them, thus destroying them, within moments of their deployment. That won’t be happening in Black Ops 2.
In this year’s CoD, the sentry gun will be closer to the middle of the pack in terms of score streaks. Because of that, Treyarch wanted those who use it to get more out of it. To make this happen, they decided that players will no longer be able to destroy it by knifing it.
That means that if you manage to flank an enemy turret, you can either EMP it or wait for it to disappear on its own. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather EMP it. You’ll even gain points toward your score streaks for taking it out.
So, when you first pop Black Ops 2 into your console and hop into a multiplayer game, remember that the EMP grenade is your best friend and don’t try to knife a sentry gun.
