Bound by Flame: ‘Companions are Real Assets in Combat’

Flame

Focus Interactive revealed today, in great detail, the importance of companions in Bound by Flame. More than battle heroes, companions will have the power to alter the course of events, depending on players’ decisions. As previously announced, there will be five distinct companions, two female (Sybil and Edwen) and three male (Mathras, Randval and Rhelmar). Each one will be specialized in a different combat area, which enables multiple combat synergies and tactics. Companions can’t be controlled, they have their own will and personality, however they’re still indispensable assets in battle, as Focus Interactive stated:

Companions are real assets in combat and will prove crucial in the more advanced difficulty modes. Consider carefully who you want to fight alongside you, and combine their skills and your own abilities to achieve a flawless combat synergy, but remember to bear the nature of enemies you are confronting in mind.

Bound by Flame

Bound by Flame will feature interactive companions, building relationships with them won’t be exclusively for mere entertainment, as they can alter the outcome of several events or even change the course of the entire story. Companions will have personalities of their own, which includes thoughts, opinions and feelings. As the story progresses, players will be able to forge different types of relationships with each member, as Focus Interactive explained:

You will gradually develop friendships, rivalries and even romances with them along the way, and your actions and decisions will influence your relationship with each one, so make sure you don’t upset your best friend.

Disappointing or even betraying a certain companion might lead him/her to abandon the party and that will have devastating consequences in the future. On the other hand, friendship and romance relationships will enable new and unexpected opportunities. In this choice-driven RPG every decision seems to count, so if you really need or like someone, then you should consider  how your actions and decisions may affect that same companion.

Bound by Flame willbe avaiable for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360 on May 9, 2014.
